In celebration of UP ASTERISK’s third anniversary we proudly present an art exhibit which underscores everyday struggles and issues concerning our cultural workers in the Filipino community. This collaborative effort is an amalgam of different perspectives, stories, and ideas, with a unifying element that represents the views of the entire organization.

Asterisk KwenShop Contest Mechanics!

In line with our objectives, we are going to launch a two-week celebration of UP ASTERISK’s 3rd Year Anniversary entitled “No TRESpassing: The Cultural Struggle in Contemporary Philippine Society.” from February 9 to 20, 2009. During these days, we will be hosting several events such as art workshop and competition for high school students with discussion to be facilitated by invited speakers with experience in various areas of cultural work (KwenShop), free film showing (Freelikula), cultural night, and an exhibit to promote inventiveness and creativity by paying closer attention to the struggles that the general collegiate population is experiencing in social and academic contexts.

It is in this nature that we invite your school to participate in our KwenShop entitled Sining Natin, Buhayin, a whole day activity which combines two of the foremost activities of our organization: the Kwenkap (Kwentuhan at Kapihan), which is a discussion centered around specific topics concerning cultural work and the like over cups of coffee and snacks, and the Workshop, which is the activity that allows for the actual production of art. The KwenShop, thus, will be divided in two parts. The first part (early part of the day) will be a discussion on the current situation of cultural work in our country which will be facilitated by experienced cultural workers of the Philippines, and the second part (afternoon) will be an art contest.
